Tourist tourist guy arrested after being caught trying to smuggle cocaine in Canada

BELIZE, Ind.

(AP) A tourist who tried to smuggler cocaine in a suitcase on a tourist attraction in Belize was arrested on Monday after he ran away and was taken to a jail in the state capital, authorities said.

Police said the tourist was taken from the tourist area on the outskirts of the capital on Monday night after a woman alerted authorities that she was having a cocaine-induced seizure.

The woman, identified as a 42-year-old woman, said the suspect was trying to sneak into the area and that he had been seen trying to enter her car by hiding in the back seat, according to Belize’s National Police.

She told police she had given her driver a $2,500 tip for information leading to the suspect, police said.

The suspect’s vehicle was located in a field near the tourist town of Nuevo Leon, Belize, and his fingerprints were taken, police reported.

He was taken in a police helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.

Authorities are not releasing the suspect’s name.

The drug smuggling charge is a first-degree felony, according with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
