Honduras official says two injured in beach fire

A man was injured when a blaze broke out in the tropical island nation’s popular beach resort of Managua, the health minister said.

The man, who was not identified, was in stable condition, and a fire broke out at the La Cunha Beach Resort on Sunday night, Health Minister Ricardo Perez said in a statement.

The fire was extinguished by the end of the day, Perez said.

The blaze was put out by the police, the fire department and firefighters.

He said the resort had closed for the day.

“The man who was injured is a tourist from Peru and is from the U.S.,” Perez said on Twitter.

The man was not wearing a life jacket and was not injured.

A statement from Managuanis tourism authority, La Cancun, said that one of its employees had been seriously injured when they fell on the beach.

The resort has not yet reopened.

The U.N. World Tourism Organization has estimated that Managuans tourism industry has about 3 million tourists, but that number is likely lower because of the difficulty in locating hotels.
